COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater B.P.U. Board of Directors held a work shop Thursday night ahead of what outgoing director Jeff Budd says is a very big decision they will have to make concerning what is called Project V during their next regular meeting on March 2.
The board is scheduled to decide that night whether or not the utility will go forward with a 50-megawatt natural gas generator near Newton Road. The Michigan South Central Power Agency is handling the nearly five-year-old project which involves Coldwater, Clinton and Hillsdale with Coldwater’s share being 74 percent.
M.S.C.P.A. General Manager Pam Sullivan expressed frustration the process has been delayed many times and that Midcontinent Independent System Operator, otherwise known as MISO, had just finished a grid study.
Budd said at the start of the workshop that it was not necessary for the Coldwater City Council to be involved in the decision making process.
Budd warned Thursday night CBPU customers could be looking at an immediate rate hike of between three-point-eight to five percent if the project is not pursued.
