SHERMAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 31-year-old man from the Detroit area was taken into custody by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department on assault charges Monday night after a bizarre series of events.
Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says deputies were dispatched to the area of Balk Road and Sherman Mills Road at about 5:45 p.m. after numerous 911 calls were made about a man who was walking in the road, yelling at on-coming traffic and jumping in front of cars.
Before deputies arrived, St. Joseph County central dispatch got another 911 call saying the Detroit man assaulted a 20-year-old man from Sturgis who had stopped to talk to the suspect.
Deputies arrived and took the suspect into custody without further incident.
