COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals broke open a close game in the second half on Tuesday night as they defeated the Pennfield Panthers 60-47 in a Interstate 8 boys basketball game at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
Pennfield led 25-24 at halftime but Coldwater turned the game in their favor with a nine point spurt in the third quarter. The Cardinals led 37-35 after the third quarter and outscored the Panthers 23-12 in the final stanza to seal the deal.
Evan Sloan recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Downs added 12 points while Donte Work had 10 points. Joe Closson recorded four steals.
Coldwater is now 14-3 overall and 11-2 in the Interstate 8.

Pennfield won both of the underclassmen games by scores of 40-30 for the JV’s and 47-28 in the freshman game. Niko Downs led the Coldwater JV’s with nine points. Kendall Austin had 16 points to lead the Coldwater freshmen.
