COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has awarded a Coldwater area business a $70,000 grant to setting up a brick and mortar location for meat processing and an attached market.
Butternut Ridge Meatery and Market LLC hasn’t announced its new location yet, but owner Sam AcMoody says the grant will allow them to install special refrigeration units. Butternut Ridge Beef currently operates out of the AcMoody family farm north of Coldwater, and has set up sales locations in the past in downtown Coldwater and at Hoff’s Market.
AcMoody says the new location will allow them to expand their meat line, as well as adding poultry, sausage, baked goods, and other prepared foods.
The department received 114 proposals with requests totaling more than $9.6 million for their Rural Development Fund Grants. Only 21 projects were selected for funding, totaling $1.8 million.
AcMoody hopes to have Butternut Ridge Meatery and Market open by this summer or early fall.
