BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – On an emotional Senior Night at Harper Creek High School, Coldwater was able to hold off the host Beavers for a 49-46 win. The Cardinals would find out after the game that, thanks to Jackson Northwest’s 53-29 upset win agains Marshall, they won a share of the Interstate 8 boys basketball championship, with the Cards and Redhawks both finishing league play at 12-2.
Harper Creek didn’t make it easy, as they led 8-7 after the first quarter and took a 24-18 lead into the halftime break. Coldwater used a 17-11 third quarter to tie the game at 35-all heading into the final quarter, where they prevailed 14-11.
Brandon Downs led all scorers with 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Donte Work added 15 points and 7 boards, and Evan Sloan had 12 points and 7 rebounds.
The Cardinals improved their overall record to 15-3 and will host Otsego on Senior Night next Tuesday.

Coldwater also won the JV game 55-45 behind a game-high 18 points and 5 rebounds from Tyson Roby. Harper Creek took the freshman contest 55-31.
