Homer Edwards, Jr, “Jr.,” 88, of Sherwood Township, went to be with the Lord February 28, 2022. He passed away at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
A graveside service with military honors will be held in spring at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Jr. was born May 6, 1933 to Homer and Mabel Edwards of Union City. He lived in Union City all of his life and attended Union City Community Schools. He joined the U.S. Army in April of 1953 and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. In 1955, he was released to the U.S. Army Reserve for eight years. He was awarded the National Defense Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
On May 9, 1958, Jr. married the former Alta May Jones in Union City. She preceded him in death on April 16, 1983.
In Union City, Jr. worked at grocery stores while he was attending school. He later joined the A & P Grocery Store organization, working in Union City, Marshall, Sturgis and Coldwater until retiring in 1992. He, along with his wife, also drove school buses while he was working in Union City.
When he was young, Jr. loved to ride his snowmobile, go fishing and go up north deer hunting with his mom and dad and brothers. Jr. liked taking bus trips with the senior group watch, going to the racetracks and watching NASCAR. Coffee hour with family at his sister-in-law’s house was a big thing. Jr. attended the Union City Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his son, Robert Homer (Joy) Edwards and his daughter, Cheryl Lyn Castelan, both of South Carolina; also leaving behind nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Charlotte Garnsay of Union City, Mary Ellen Childers of Arkansas and Carol Adams of Athens; lots of nieces and nephews; and also his good friend, neighbor and coffee drinker, Reed Baumgardner.
Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Don and Richard; and one sister, Frances Johnson.
