ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A Coldwater area man was ordered to serve jail time this week in Steuben County Circuit Court after he entered a guilty plea to a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.
According to on line Indiana court records, 53-year-old Jeffrey J. Burns was given a four year sentence with two years suspended by Judge Allen Wheat. Burns was placed on two years probation and was also given credit for four days spent in jail.
He was scheduled to go on trial on February 16 but the plea agreement was filed three weeks before that.
The Herald Republican reports the charge was filed in October of 2020 by Steuben County Prosecutors in connection with an incident in July of that year and that the victim was a 15-year-old girl.
Burns was also ordered not to have any contact with the girl and he must pay over $2,000 in court costs and filing fees.
