DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Out of the 18 Branch County wrestlers who qualified for the M.H.S.A.A. Individual Finals at Detroit’s Ford Field, eight are still alive heading into Saturday’s competition including two who have a chance to win a state championship.
Logan Mears and Landyn Crance of Union City have made it to the Division Four championship round.
Mears will wrestle for the 103 pound championship after he scored three pins on Friday to improve his season record to 45-4. His opponent in the finals will be fellow freshman Logan Gilbert of Martin who is 40-6.
Crance advanced to the 125 pound final thanks to a pin and two decisions. He will take a 44-3 record into the finals against fellow sophomore Austin Marry of Hudson who is 27-11.
The championship round is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m..
Also assured of winning all-state honors by finishing in the top eight of their weight classes and making it to the podium are Brayton Mears, Colton Russell, Garrett Iobe and Grady Iobe from Union City along with Aiden Fill and Jacob Dixon of Bronson.
