COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A site plan from Core Investment Group of Lansing to construct a 3,200 square foot retail sales building that would be a recreational cannibis dispensary at 55 South Michigan Avenue was passed by the Coldwater Planning Commission on Monday night.
Most of Monday night’s discussion centered around contingencies such as a vegetation easement, sidewalks on the east side of South Michigan Avenue and the screening of a dumpster.
After over a half hour, a number of conditions were attached to the motion for approval as detailed by City Planner Dean Walrack.
Paul Schmitz of Bath, Michigan is the petitioner for the proposed operation.
Current plans call for a single-family home and detached garage to be demolished. A new building and a 16-space parking lot would be constructed.
Schmitz plans to have a building with “upscale features and fit the character of the Michigan Avenue corridor.” There would be a staff of four employees.
Nearby residents and business owners have raised concerns in the past and a divided Planning Commission only approved a Special Use Permit for the proposed establishment on a 4-3 vote last October.
