COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new three year contract between the City of Coldwater and the union representing the 13 full time Coldwater firefighters was approved by the Coldwater City Council on Monday night.
The resolution passed was a draft until the Council approves Monday evening’s minutes at the next meeting.
Coldwater Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz says members of the International Association of Firefighters will get pay raises of three percent in the first year and two percent in each of the following two years.
He says the contract is retroactive to July 1, 2021. The new deal expires on June 30, 2024.
The Council reviewed details of the agreement during a 25 minute closed session. They took formal action after they came back and reconvened in open session.
Schmaltz says the contract was ratified by union members last week.
Other parts of the agreement include an employer’s contribution to the employee’s defined contribution retirement plan increasing four percent to a total of 14 percent and the residency requirement being extended from 20 to 25 miles.
There were also a number of other language changes.
