COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After nearly three decades, the Great Hospice Duck Race is transitioning to a different local organization.
According to a press release issued by ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital on Tuesday, the hospital will partner with the Coldwater Exchange Club this year and help transition the event to be permanently operated by the Exchange Club in future years.
This year, both ProMedica Coldwater Hospice and the Child Advocacy Center through Coldwater Exchange will benefit from the money raised.
Organizers plan to have an in person event on June 4 at Waterworks Park. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 race while the 2021 race had to be held virtually.
Tickets will be available at several local businesses as well as the hospice office and the Naomi Davis Shelter house. They will also be available from any Coldwater Exchange Club member.
All the proceeds from the event help cover the cost of care, supplies and medication for patients, support for the new Child Advocacy Center as well as other community projects.
The first prize this year is $2,022 in cash donated by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Second prize is a week-long camping adventure donated by Advantage 1 Auto & RV and Auto Brokers.
Third prize is a Family Bronze Golf Membership Package donated by Coldwater Golf Course.
More than $14,000 in prizes will be given away on race day.
