COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack reported to the Bronson City Council on Monday night they are still dealing with a shortage of corrections officers.
Pollack told the Council that mandatory overtime to help cover shifts was instituted on January 21 and that five days later they were down to nine officers which is less than 50 percent of a full work force.
The Branch County Board of Commissioners recently gave Pollack permission to use a marketing firm to help fill the openings.
Pollack says the average number of corrections officers that have worked for the last six months has been 10.
The Sheriff’s Office currently has 12 corrections officers with three of them in training.
Corrections accounted for over 490 hours of Sheriff’s Department overtime during the month of February.
