UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Community Schools Board of Education approved an agreement with the Benton Harbor architectural firm of Wightman and Associates on Monday night for a project that would include the replacement of bleachers at Alumni Field.
The project is expected to cost over $1-point-5 million.
It will include new concrete bleachers with aluminum benches at the current site along with a restroom building.
Performance Services of Kalamazoo will serve as the construction managers for the project which will take place this summer.
It’s hoped the work will be done by the first junior varsity football game on August 25.
Superintendent Chris Katz said recently the failing bleachers at Alumni Field need to be replaced due to erosion.
Union City Community School District voters approved a sinking fund millage renewal proposal last August which provided the funding for the replacement of the Alumni Field bleachers as well as for other projects in the district.
