QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Rob Evans has resigned as the head football coach at Quincy High School.
It was announced on social media in late January that Evans had been dismissed from his football duties.
That led to a large outpouring of support for Evans from community members and his former athletes. A large crowd of supporters showed up at the Quincy School Board meeting on February 7 and spoke on his behalf for almost two hours.
Evans was involved with the Quincy football program for 25 years and had been the head coach since 2011.
In a Facebook post, Evans thanked the community of Quincy for their unwavering support over the last couple of months saying it has been a terrible time for his family and friends.
But Evans said he and his assistant coaches were treated poorly during this process, “by some members of the community that have always appeared to have their back. They have seen all the anonymous survey answers and they were not spared.”
Evans said after the February school board meeting, a meeting was held with the administration who offered to renew his football coaching contract for the 2022 season. He said, “We were to meet again and come up with ways to make improvements. I wish this newly found interest in the football program’s success would have occurred prior to this point. After thinking all weekend about this opportunity, I have made the difficult decision to resign from my position as head coach.”
Evans will continue in his other positions as girls track coach and as a science teacher at Quincy Middle School.
