COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy area woman was arraigned Wednesday in Branch County District Court after she was accused of being in possession of a large amount of methamphetamine and trying to smuggle the drug into the Branch County Jail.
39-year-old Jennifer Ann Smith was charged with being in possession of meth and being a prisoner in possession of contraband.
She was also arrested on a bench warrant out of Branch County Circuit Court for failure to appear for a hearing.
Smith was arrested on Wednesday by Coldwater Police after an officer saw her sleeping inside of a vehicle at a closed business. The officer knew she had warrants out for her arrest.
According to Branch County court documents, police found just under ten grams of meth on her person. They also found three syringes on her and two digital scales in her vehicle.
While being processed at the Branch County Jail, court documents state she handed two more syringes with suspected methamphetamine to deputies.
Not guilty pleas were entered on her behalf during Wednesday’s arraignment.
Bond on the latest charges was set at $20,000. A probable cause hearing was set for March 31 with a preliminary exam set for April 6.
