COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The process of putting together the City of Coldwater’s Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget began Monday night as the City Council conducted a one hour budget workshop.
It’s estimated the city will have a fund balance of over five-point-three million dollars on June 30.
City Finance Director Tom Eldridge said one item on the expenditure list is a $850,000 fire truck that would be delivered in 2024. There is also a $100,000 request for two police department patrol cars as well as $150,000 for public restrooms between Tibbits Plaza and South Monroe Street.
Work in the Four Corners Park is also in the budget at a cost of $350,000.
The $350,000 loan to the Downtown Development Authority for the relocation of the Children’s Museum to the former Taylor’s Stationers building will come out of fund balance just like an expense.
Eldredge pointed out they have gotten a bump in state funds due to the 2020 Census showing an increase in the number of people living in Coldwater.
Mayor Tom Kramer and Council Member Emily Rissman would like to see the city consider putting in a new soccer field to replace the one at Heritage Park that was converted into Little League baseball diamonds.
No decisions were made by the Council on Monday night.
A public hearing on the proposed budget is scheduled for May 23 with adoption set for June 13.
