BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Strong winds led to power outages for nearly 24,000 Consumer’s Energy customers on Thursday morning.
The outages included about 170 Branch County customers. Most of the Branch County outages were in Noble Township.
The power situation was much worse in the Battle Creek area where over 3,600 customers lost their electricity.
Over 1,200 Calhoun County Consumers Energy customers were without power as of late morning.
There were still 163 Hillsdale County customers without power at midday.
The strong winds included a 46 mile per hour wind gust which was recorded just before 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the Branch County Memorial Airport.
The strong winds were part of a weather system that featured a large fluctuation of temperatures over a 24 hour period.
Temperatures got into the upper 60s Wednesday night before it hovered around 60 degrees during the wee hours of the morning.
It was 60 degrees at 4:15 a.m. Thursday morning before the temperature dropped sharply to 38 degrees by 11:00 a.m..
