LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate went up slightly in February to four-point-four percent according to data released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
Their report stated that not seasonally adjusted jobless rates increased in 12 of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas during February.
Associate Director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Wayne Rourke said, “Most of Michigan’s regional labor markets displayed only minor shifts in unemployment in February. Payroll jobs rose seasonally in government as classes resumed at area schools and universities, and a few metro areas were impacted by layoffs or recalls in the auto sector.”
Jobless rates were unchanged in the Battle Creek area during February.
The report showed Branch County had the 11th lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties after the jobless rate the previous month stood at four-point-three percent.
February unemployment rates were unchanged in neighboring counties.
St. Joseph County had the seventh lowest unemployment rate in the state at three-point-nine percent, Hillsdale County was at five percent while Calhoun County stayed at five-point-six percent.
Michigan’s unemployment rate in February was four-point-seven percent.
Unemployment rates ranged from three-point-four percent in Ottawa County to 18-point-one percent in Mackinac County.
