COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency said on Friday they will begin offering residents 50 and older, and moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals over age 12, a second booster vaccine.
Pfizer remains the only COVID-19 vaccine currently authorized for those under age 18.
COVID-19 booster doses may be given at the same time as other vaccines. Individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose.
Four months after receipt of a first booster dose, the following options are available to individuals who choose to receive a second dose:
A second booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine may be administered to individuals 50 years of age and older.
A second booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine may be administered to moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals 12 years of age and older.
A second booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine may be administered to moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals 18 years of age and older.
Health Officer Rebecca Burns says, “Vaccination continues to be our best protection strategy against severe COVID illness and death. Our team has been working to make COVID vaccination as easy as possible. Vaccine is widely available at local provider offices and pharmacies please make an appointment wherever is most convenient for you.”
Medical Director Doctor Karen Luparello says, “The updated guidance for booster doses should not overshadow the need for unvaccinated individuals to talk with their primary care provider about their risk for COVID-19 illness and the benefits of vaccination. The health agency continues to encourage all residents to begin, complete their vaccine series.”
