COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The filing deadline for candidates to get on the August 2 Primary ballot is coming up in just over two weeks and so far there is just one contested Republican race for County Commissioner.
Daniel Dickerson and former County Commissioner Rod Olney have filed to run for the District Five seat.
Olney spent 14 years on the Board of Commissioners before he lost to Terri Norris in the 2017 Republican Primary.
Incumbent Commissioners Tom Mathew, Randall Hazelbaker, Jon Houtz and Tim Stoll are all running for another term on the board.
Commissioner Leonard W. Kolcz said in January he would not run for re-election after four terms as his district has been divided.
The Branch County Apportionment Commission voted last October to keep the number of County Commissioner districts at the current number of five.
But the new boundaries meant Kolcz would have had to run in the August G.O.P. Primary against Stoll and Kolcz did not want to do that.
The deadline for candidates to file in order to get on the August Primary ballot is April 19 at 4:00 p.m..
