GIRARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A wood burning stove is being listed as the cause of a Saturday morning fire which destroyed a pole barn at 1061 Bell Road in Girard Township.
Coldwater Fire Marshal Steve Trall says the fire at the Daniel Scherer property was reported at 929 a.m.
The Coldwater Fire Department arrived to find a pole barn with heavy fire and smoke throughout the entire structure. Firefighters went defensive and extinguished the fire from outside the building.
Assistance was provided by the Union City and Tekonsha Fire Departments, the Branch County Sheriffs Department, Lifecare Ambulance, Branch County Victims Assistance Team and Consumers Energy.
The fire was out after approximately an hour and crews remained on scene until 12:25 p.m.
The estimated damages to the property are $150,000. No injuries were reported.
