COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved bids for milling and repaving of ten streets in the city and the repair of downtown sidewalks during their meeting on Monday night.
City Manager Keith Baker said the responsible low bidder for the street work was Excell Paving of Coldwater at over $532,000 which was under the engineers estimate.
(The work will take place on Seeley Street, N. Michigan Ave., Alandale Dr., Linda Ln., Cheryl Ann Dr., Rumsey Ct., Ridgemoor Rd., Scott Dr., Carlyle Dr. and Douglas Ave.)
Excell Paving has previously done work for the city. They were one of five bidders for the project which is being budgeted for the 2022-23 fiscal year from the City’s Act 51 Street Fund. It was identified as the first project outlined in Baker’s proposed three year road improvement plan. Baker says the bid from Excell comes with a one-year warranty for materials and workmanship.
The Council also approved a bid of over $17,500 from Two Ducks, Incorporated of Battle Creek for the leveling and grinding of 38 locations where downtown sidewalks are uneven and damaged.
Baker said the staff would like to have repairs done as soon as possible before the busy event season and warm weather months. The project will be funded by the current 2021-22 Fiscal Year budget. The work is scheduled to be completed over the next couple of weeks depending on the weather.
seems like these roads to get repair are all in rich neighborhoods. while my poor one block street was absolutely shredded from dump trucks when the new middle school was built. it’s pathetic that our little one block street gets filled with what might as well be crushed oreos that wash out very quickly. just sayin’.
