CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – A St. Joseph County Circuit Court murder trial was scheduled to start on Tuesday but a change in defense counsel has forced a delay.
35-year-old Michael Lafler is charged with murder in the strangulation death of 33-year-old Chelsea Wallen in her Colon home.
Lafler was Wallen’s boyfriend at the time of her death.
The defendant is being held on a $1 million bond.
On line court records indicate that Lafler’s new lawyer needs time to review the case after the change was requested on March 31.
The next hearing as well as a new trial date has not been scheduled yet by the court.
This is the third time since the case was bound over to Circuit Court that the trial date has been changed.
Wallen attended Colon High School and resided in Colon her entire life. She worked as a manager at Countryside Quality Meats in Union City.
