LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate went down in March to three-point-seven percent according to data released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget after being at four-point-four percent in February.
Their report stated that not seasonally adjusted jobless rates dropped in Michigan’s 17 labor market areas during March.
Associate Director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Wayne Rourke said, “Michigan’s regional labor markets recorded positive trends over the month. March was characterized by seasonal jobless rate reductions across all regions and payroll job gains in most metro areas.”
Jobless rates in the Battle Creek area dropped from five-point-six percent in February to four-point-seven percent in March.
The report showed Branch County had the 12th lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties.
March unemployment rates also went down in neighboring counties.
St. Joseph County had the eighth lowest unemployment rate in the state at three-point-five percent, Hillsdale County was at four-point-one percent while Calhoun County was at four-point-seven percent.
Michigan’s unemployment rate in February was four-point-four percent.
Unemployment rates ranged from three percent in Ottawa County to 14-point-five percent in Mackinac County.
