COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Nearly 400 persons attended last Tuesday’s fundraising banquet at the Dearth Center in Coldwater for The Reach the Forgotten Jail Ministry.
The Branch County banquet fundraiser has not been held the last couple of years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Reach the Forgotten Jail Ministry is a nonprofit out of Grand Rapids and focuses on providing Christ-centered teachings through worship services, Bible studies, Bible distributions, and Bible courses to inmates in Branch County and at other locations.
This program aims to help inmates build healthy family, church, and community relationships when they are returned home through the teaching of the Bible.
In their previous fiscal year, Reach the Forgotten had over 1,400 volunteers serving in 35 jails across the state. More than 12,000 Bibles were distributed throughout the year and over 19,000 Bible courses were completed by inmates.
“It was a great turnout of support for this ministry held at the Branch County Jail for inmates, after not being able to host the fundraiser for the last two years,” said Sheriff John Pollack.
Again, the Branch County Sheriff’s Office secured a whole table with Sheriff’s Office staff, and Pollack thanking the organization for this ministry in the jail.
Ed Knisley serves as the Chaplain for the Branch County Jail and has been with Reach the Forgotten since 2005. His wife, Tammy, serves as the Assistant Chaplain.
