COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community School District Board of Education adopted a resolution on Monday night to enter into a $350,000 agreement with Republic Services which would allow the district to purchase property at 102 Treat Avenue so that they could move its transportation department.
The resolution authorized Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan to sign the purchase agreement.
The purchase of this property with offices and bus bays has been has been looked at by district officials for over 10 years as they wanted to move the transportation department away from the high school grounds and provide additional safety for students and staff.
The district will now have 45 days to do their “due diligence” and environmental testing of the site. If during the Phase 1 testing, there becomes a need to complete a Phase II testing the district will have an additional 45 days to complete the second phase.
Along those same lines, the board approved a $2,500 contract with Envirologic for a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment which can be completed in three weeks. Envirologic may recommend the district continue with a Phase II audit based on what they find during Phase I.
If Coldwater School district voters approve a ballot proposal next Tuesday, district officials say they will be able to issue a new bond and generate approximately $53 million with no millage increase. About $3.45 million would be used to turn the existing site of the bus garage into a new front entrance and parking.
$2.5 M after they buy it? Wth are they doing to it?
