COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Community Health Agency Health Officer Rebecca Burns told the Board of Health on Thursday that after a nearly two month downward trend, they are starting to see a slight increase in COVID-19 cases. She said this was exactly what they were told to expect with the newer Omicron like variant.
The latest information indicates Branch, Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties are at a moderate risk for the spread of the virus but nearby counties have gone up to either a substantial or high risk level.
Burns added the Community Health Agency continues to offer COVID-19 vaccinations following the CDC guidance on administration and that they have seen a slight bump in demand now that individuals 50 and older are eligible for a second booster dose.
Appointments can continue to be made online at www.bhsj.org/scheduling or by calling Community Health Agency offices and asking for immunizations.
Burns also reported local libraries are participating in giving out free COVID test kits. Participating libraries in our area include Waldron District Library in Waldron, Nottawa Township Library in Centreville, and White Pigeon Township Library in White Pigeon.
Residents can continue to order free COVID tests from the Federal Government, if they haven’t already, at https://www.covidtests.gov. The free test kits being distributed by the Rockefeller Foundation is nearly at a close but at this time they are still available.
