UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – New signs have been erected in Union City which honor the village’s three time Olympic Athlete, and member of the Albion College Athletic Hall of Fame, Lee Bartlett.
It took a group effort involving the Village Council and the Historical Society to bring the signs to Union City.
The idea was initially brought up by Daily Reporter Sports Editor Troy Tennyson who noticed signs in Homer honoring their Olympic Athlete and thought it would be appropriate for Union City to honor their hometown Olympian.
The Historical Society agreed to purchase five signs and worked with the Village to design them.
The Village Department of Public Works installed the signs this week at entrances at North Broadway, South Broadway, St Joseph, Division and Coldwater Roads.
Bartlett held many javelin records and participated in the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics.
