COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – According to statistics posted on the Community Health Agency’s web site, Branch County recorded its 10,000th case of COVID-19 this week.
Since the worldwide pandemic was declared by the World Health Organization in March of 2020, the Community Health Agency says there have been 10,006 cases in Branch County and 182 deaths due to the virus.
As for the other counties served by the C.H.A., St. Joseph County has reported 12,086 cases and 208 deaths while Hillsdale County has had 9,290 cases and 204 deaths.
The State of Michigan has had just under two-and-a-half million cases and nearly 36,000 deaths since the first case was reported on March 10, 2020.
The number of new cases reported has decreased during the last couple of months compared to this past winter’s surge but Community Health Agency Medical Director Karen Luparello told the Board of Health this week that while there has been great improvement, they must maintain a sense of readiness.
The latest statistics from the state show that while Branch and St. Joseph Counties are at a moderate risk of the virus spreading, surrounding counties have gone back into the high risk threshold.
