NOTTAWA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Sturgis man was seriously injured Sunday night when his motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck in St. Joseph County.
Sheriff Mark A. Lillywhite reports the crash happened at about 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of M-86 and Nottawa Road.
It was determined by investigators that a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 23-year-old from Burr Oak was stopped at the stop sign on Nottawa Road waiting to cross the intersection.
A 1998 Honda three wheeled motorcycle, being driven by 72-year-old Elden Begly of Sturgis, was heading west on M-86 when the pickup truck tried to cross the intersection and struck the motorcycle.
Begly was thrown from the motorcycle. Deputies say he was alert and conscious before being transported to Bronson Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Silverado were not injured.
Begly was wearing a helmet and seatbelts were used in the truck.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Centreville Fire / Rescue and Lifecare Ambulance Service.
