BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Gas prices spiked by almost 30 cents to a jaw dropping $4.39 a gallon on Monday at several stations in the City of Coldwater.
It came on the same day the national average for regular no lead hit a record $4.17 a gallon. The national average for diesel was $5.29.
As of Monday night, Gas Buddy reported the lowest price for gas in Branch County was $3.94 at a station in Quincy.
Prices were also lower to the south in Steuben County with many stations still under $4 a gallon.
Gas Buddy’s Patrick DeHaan urged consumers to shop around. He said on Twitter, “this appears to be an overshoot and hopefully it will come down quickly.”
Reasons for the jump in prices include crude oil at $105 a barrel, the continuing war in Ukraine, inflation, supply chain issues, the switch to summer gas and the oncoming summer driving season
