Bronson City Council approves five year contract with local POAM

BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council approved a new five year contract agreement with the local Police Officers Association of Michigan union on Monday night. The current agreement expires on June 30. City Manager Brandon Mersman says staff has been negotiating with the union over the course of the last few months. The five-year agreement will run from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2027. Mersman says the agreement includes a five percent wage increase starting July 1 and an equal wage increase as non-union employees for year two of the agreement. He says by agreeing to increases for the first two years of the agreement they were able to agree on a five year term instead of three years. Years three, four and five of the contract will have a wage reopener. Mersman believes these wage adjustments will allow the City of Bronson to better retain and attract new officers in this extremely competitive field.
