UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City School Superintendent Chris Katz told the district’s School Board on Monday night that bids for this summer’s bleacher project at Alumni Field are due June 1.
The project is expected to cost over $1-point-5 million. It will include new concrete bleachers with aluminum benches at the current site along with a restroom building.
The old bleachers need to be replaced due to erosion.
Performance Services of Kalamazoo will serve as the construction managers for the project which will take place this summer.
It’s hoped the work will be done by the first junior varsity football game on August 25.
Katz was asked if things will be ready for the first varsity home game on September 1.
Union City Community School District voters approved a sinking fund millage renewal proposal last August which provided the funding for the replacement of the bleachers as well as for other projects in the district.
In other business Monday night, the board formally approved a three year contract between the district and the Union City Education Association. The agreement would be effective on July 1 and run through June of 2025.
