COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater hosted Jackson Northwest for a doubleheader at the Rotary Softball Complex and earned a split. The Cardinals were no-hit by the Mounties 4-0 in the opener before they came back to take the nightcap 3-1.
In the first game, Northwest ace Nevaeh Ingram faced the minimum 21 hitters and gave up no walks with 14 strikeouts. She only allowed one Cardinal baserunner on a fielding error; that runner was later erased on a 1-3-5 double play. Alexis Bills took the hard-luck loss, allowing all 4 runs on 10 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts.
Ingram also pitched the second game, giving up a walk and striking out 12 in the loss. But Coldwater’s Kenzie Scheid dominated both on the circle and at the plate. She gave up an unearned run on 4 hits with no walks and 6 strikeouts. Scheid and Bills hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away:
Scheid added a double, while Jayla Foster and Brooklyn Kerry singled.
The Cardinals are now 15-8 overall and 7-3 in the Interstate 8, while the Mounties, ranked #1 in Division 2 in the most recent Softball Coaches Association poll, are 26-2 overall and 11-1 in league play.
