COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals split their Interstate 8 baseball doubleheader with Jackson Northwest at Lowe Field on Tuesday evening at Lowe Field.
The Mounties won the opener 2-1 but Coldwater bounced back to take the nightcap 7-2.
The Cardinals were held to three hits in the first game. Garrett Johns had two of the hits including a double.
Cole Barker had the other hit. He also stole two bases and scored the Cardinals only run.
The Mounties scored the winning run in the top of the sixth to snap a 1-1 tie.
Nate Tappenden struck out eight in seven innings of work on the mound.
The Coldwater bats finally erupted in the second game as Coldwater snapped a 2-2 tie with a four run fifth inning and tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.
Logan Farmer and Tappenden homered. Farmer had three hits including a triple and a homer while Tappenden doubled and drove in three runs.
Winning pitcher Brock Thornton tossed a two hitter and struck out four.
Coldwater is now 14-10 overall and 8-2 in the Interstate 8.
