HASTINGS, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals now control their own destiny as they try to win the Interstate 8 baseball title for 2022 thanks to a doubleheader sweep of the Hastings Saxon on Thursday.
The Cardinals scored a pair of lopsided wins as they defeated the Saxons 13-1 and 10-2.
Coldwater pitcher Cam Heineman went the distance to earn the first game win.
Logan Farmer and Nate Tappenden both homered and drove in three runs while Brynden Massey had a pair of doubles.
Coldwater broke a close game open in the nightcap. The Cardinals only led 3-2 after four innings before they scored the final seven runs in the game which included a five-run outburst in the seventh that sealed the deal.
Garrett Johns was the winning pitcher while Joe Closson earned the save.
Heineman had three hits including two doubles and two RBI’s.
Closson, Massey, and Cole Heineman all drove in two runs.
Coldwater is now 16-10 overall and 10-2 in the Interstate 8.
They play their final conference doubleheader of the season next Tuesday at Jackson Lumen Christi.
