COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It was standing room only at Cardinal Field on Sunday afternoon as 216 members of the Coldwater High School Class of 2022 received their diplomas.
Coldwater High School Principal Bill Milnes was the head cheerleader as members of the Class of ’22 entered.
The class valedictorians were Anna DeMeester, Carolyn Potter and Garrett Thorne.
The class salutatorian was Zackary Grines.
Coldwater High School Athletic Director Todd Farmer announced that DeMeester was named the winner of the John Vance Award.
The award is named after the 1975 Coldwater High School graduate who was an athlete, student leader and honor student. Vance died from cancer in 1982.
DeMeester is the second straight female athlete to receive the honor after Mia Rzepka was named the winner of the award last year.
The Class of 2022 was the 155th graduating class from Coldwater High School.
Normally the commencement ceremony is held in June and there have been years where participants had to endure temperatures in the 90s.
That was far from the case on Sunday as the mercury struggled to get into the 60s and those who planned on attending were told to bring a jacket.
