COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The first of two public hearings on a request from a property owner to annex nearly 40 acres of land in Quincy Township into the Village of Quincy was held during Thursday’s Branch County Board of the Commissioners work session. Commissioners are also being asked to approve the de-annexation of a separate piece of property from the Village to Quincy Township.
The requests have hit some snags in recent weeks. County Commissioner Tom Matthew raised several questions and requests for information during a work session last month. The Quincy Township Board then voted in opposition during a special meeting after there were concerns raised about possible cannabis businesses on the property in the future.
Ian Bernard said he bought the property several years ago strictly for development purchases.
Quincy Township resident Jennifer Wortz pressed Bernard about the cannabis issue.
Bernard’s explanation did not satisfy Wortz.
Quincy Village Manager Brittany Butler says there has been a lot of talk and misconstrued information about the request.
The second of the two public hearings will take place during the Commissioners regular meeting next Tuesday afternoon at 4:35 p.m..
