COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There are concerns about a potential shortfall of power for utility companies in most of Michigan this summer.
Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Director Paul Jakubczak told the CBPU Board of Directors Wednesday night that Midcontinent Independent System Operator, otherwise known as MISO, conducted their capacity auction for the 2022-2023 season in April which resulted in a cost increase and a potential shortfall of power supply in the MISO footprint of roughly 1,200 megawatts.
He said the CBPU has started reviewing and revising its Emergency Electrical Procedures manual to make sure they are ready if an emergency is enacted.
Jakubczak added they will be revising marketing information to promote energy conservation for their customers and update emergency contacts with their large industrial customers to help keep them informed in case the need arises for them to conserve energy as well.
As a last resort, Jakubczak says the utility is reviewing emergency plans for rolling blackouts to keep the grid from collapsing.
