COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Even though it had a different name this year, Saturday’s annual Duck Race at Waterworks Park, sponsored by the Coldwater Exchange Club, raised around $27,000.
Previously called the Great Hospice Duck Race, the event was taken on by the Exchange Club this year, with monies still benefiting hospice programs, the Child Advocacy Center being built by the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, and other community projects.
2,777 rubber ducks were sold, with another 100 cash sponsors for the duck race.
The first duck across the finish line in the Sauk River was adopted by Nicole Hull, who won $2,022 cash, donated by Dutcher Funeral Home. Diana Herlan came in second, winning a weeklong camping adventure donated by Advantage 1 RV and Auto Brokers and Waffle Farms Campground.

There were kids games, food, and music from Delbert Walling and Megan Tappenden throughout the morning and afternoon, with the ducks hitting the water at 1:15 p.m.
John Bolton was the winner of the celebrity “Ducknitary Race,” with Mabel Hough winning the “Lame Duck” award for the last place finisher in that earlier race.
