COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The family of Joel and Irene Weigt recently made a donation of over $2,000 in their memory to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office.
The donation was designated by the family to go to Victim Services, the K9 fund and Marine Patrol, which Joel Wight helped to start.
He was a Deputy with the Branch County Sheriff’s Office for 26 years, retiring in 1986.

Sheriff John Pollack said “Although the Weigt’s are no longer with us, we’re glad their family decided to leave this legacy gift to the Sheriff’s Office for necessary equipment and trainings that the officers need.”
Irene Weight was a nurse for 30 years at the Community Health Center of Branch County which is now known as ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital).
Ed Weigt said, “We felt like the Victim Services fund tied nicely to mom’s profession as a nurse, while we knew dad would want us to support the Marine Patrol.”
Both Ed and Steve Weigt were present to make the donation in memory of their parents.
If you’re interested in making a donation for the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, there is a fund at the Branch County Community Foundation called Supporters of the Branch County Sheriff’s Office Fund.
