COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – At the May Women Who Care of Branch County meeting, the group voted to give funds from the meeting to the Tibbits Opera House for their upcoming Cultivating Community events happening this fall.
The amount donated at the one-hour meeting was $9,800 and a total donation to the community of over $303,700 since its inception in 2014.
Diane Pridgeon was the member who nominated the organization for the donation. The Tibbits Opera Foundation will be teaming with the Branch County Community Foundation and Branch Intermediate School District in September and October for a month-long celebration of cultural connectivity through art, music, dance, speakers, book reads, conversations, food, and community service.
Women Who Care of Branch County is an alliance of busy women who want to make a difference and can commit to four meetings per year and donate $100 at each meeting. The idea is to streamline fundraising for local charities and 501(c)3 organizations with a 501(c)3.
Meetings occur once per quarter at the ProMedica Coldwater Cancer Center. Members may nominate the charity of their choice at the beginning of each meeting. Two nominations are pulled out of a box, and those two nominating members have 10 minutes to speak to the group on why the charity is in need of the funds.
After both have spoken, the members vote on who should get the money raised that evening. Those who are unable to attend still commit to donating $100 per quarter to the charity chosen at the meeting.
Other community organizations the group has contributed to includes the Bridges out of Poverty program, Backpack Buddy Program, the Girlz Club, Family Promise, the Branch Area Rescue Coalition, Girls on the Run, Altrusa Happy Feet Program, Coach Eby Youth and Family Center, Teen Share, Tommy’s House, the Coldwater High School Interact Club, the Foster Child Enrichment Fund, the BCCADV Fence Fund, the Coldwater Band Boosters, the Branch County School Telemedicine Program, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program, Bronson Girls Softball Complex, Branch County Sheriff’s Reserve, Branch Area Food Pantry, Hidden Ponds Horse Rescue, Branch County Community Foundation, Coach Eby Youth and Family Center, the Children’s Museum of Branch County, Child Advocacy Center, and the Branch County Food Pantry. Hors d’oeuvres for the meetings were generously donated by the Branch County Community Foundation.
