STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – A Sturgis man is looking at a prison sentence of over 20 years following his conviction by a St. Joseph County Circuit Court jury this week of Using the Internet to Commit a Crime and two counts of Aggravated Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material.
24-year-old Adalberto (Jacob) Garcia was convicted following a two day trial.
He was arrested and charged after authorities got a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding child sexually abusive material being possessed by a Sturgis man.
They had received a tip from SnapChat in early April 2021, which was connected to Garcia’s screen name and tracked via internet ISP to his home on Susan Street.
A Michigan State Police investigation led to the charges being filed.
Garcia will be sentenced on July 22, 2022.
He was previously convicted of Fourth Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and was on felony probation at the time of the offenses.
