WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVB) – Branch County’s representative in Congress issued a statement on Friday which applauded the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Congressman Tim Walberg said in a statement posted on his Facebook page, “Today’s ruling is a tremendous victory for life. For years, so many of us in the pro-life movement have fought for and marched to protect the unborn, and this decision validates those tireless efforts. God’s most precious gift is that of life and it is the very first unalienable right listed in our Declaration of Independence. By overturning Roe v Wade, our nation will have an opportunity to better live up to this foundational ideal. The Court’s decision rightly returns power to the state level, and in the days ahead, it is critical that we continue the important work of standing for the sanctity of life.”
He said Friday morning about an hour before the Supreme Court decision was announced….
Walberg claimed pro abortion activists were behind the vandalism of a building that houses his campaign office and an anti-abortion group in Jackson earlier this week.
Michigan Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement that she will not use her office to prosecute licensed medical professionals who offer abortion services.
Nessel said, “Although we knew this was coming after the leak of Justice Alito’s draft decision, it doesn’t make it any less shocking or unnerving that Americans will lose a fundamental right they’ve had for nearly my entire lifetime. We all have our own personal beliefs about abortion; the decision of whether to terminate a pregnancy is a deeply personal one that should not be controlled by the state. There’s a big difference between adhering to your own personal beliefs and forcing others to abide by them.”
As a result of today’s decision, the legality of abortion care will now be left up to each state to decide.
