COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a change order to the Michigan/Washington/Perkins Reconstruction Project on Monday night which will allow crews to repair East Perkins from Sprague Street to where it dead ends to the east.
The City Council passed a resolution in March which approved a bid of over $1-point-2 million for the project which was awarded to Concord Excavating.
City Manager Keith Baker said due to budget considerations at the time, the section of East Perkins was not considered for repair.
But below budget bids and additional funds from the state led to East Perkins becoming a part of the major road repair project.
East Perkins serves a handful of homes as well as the Drews Place assisted living facility.
The Council passed a resolution which approved the additional cost of over $70,000 for the road improvements.
Work crews will crush the existing roadway and shape the base before it’s paved with four inches of new asphalt.
Baker says the crush and shape process will last longer and will be a good way to improve the base material without paying for new aggregate which is the same process being done on the west block of Perkins.
The overall construction project includes improvements to the City’s storm water, water, wastewater, road and sidewalk infrastructure. The city’s portion of American Rescue Plan Act funds is partially paying for the project.
