COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater School Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan brought the district’s school board up to date on a couple of properties Monday night.
The district entered into a $350,000 purchase agreement with Republic Services in April to buy the property at 102 Treat Avenue so the district could move its transportation department to that location.
Whelan said the property passed the environmental testing.
A licensed architect and an engineer then had to review code requirements.
The purchase agreement required the district to make improvements to the property. There is no closing date on the sale but Whelan was hoping it was a couple of weeks out.
As for the Fremont School property, Developer MVAH Holdings of Butler County, Ohio and St. Mary Development Corporation got a MSHDA grant of over $964,000 in July of 2021 for their Coldwater Senior Villas project at the site of the former school.
But Whelan says the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed development.
The state has awarded MVAH another round of tax credits but it will be 90 days before closure. Whelan said she has just signed a fourth 90 day extension of their contract with MVAH who has no intention of backing out.
Whelan anticipates a closing on the property within 90 days.
