UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Work on a bleacher project at Union City High School’s Alumni Field will be delayed until at least 2023 after no contractor bids were received before the June 1 deadline.
Superintendent Chris Katz told a recent meeting of the Union City School Board they will try to put something together in order to seek bids in the fall.
Katz acknowledged companies that do this work are spread thin right now.
He didn’t know if there will be additional costs because of the delays.
The project was expected to cost over $1-point-5 million. It will include new concrete bleachers with aluminum benches at the current site along with a restroom building. The old bleachers need to be replaced due to erosion.
Union City Community School District voters approved a sinking fund millage renewal proposal last August which provided the funding for the replacement of the bleachers as well as for other projects in the district.
