COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Construction on the upgrading of the City of Coldwater’s fiber optic network is done. City of Coldwater IT Director Patrick Pool made what he thought would be his final report on the project to the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors during Wednesday night’s meeting.
He said the budget for the project was in good shape.
He said the decommissioning of the coax cable will take a while.
Aspen Wireless was hired in 2019 by the CBPU to upgrade the system’s 1990’s technology.
They said at the time that the speed and capacity of the system would put it the top five percent of such networks in the nation.
Mike Reen of Coldwater, a project manager for Aspen, said in 2020 the new system was built on a state of the art cutting edge design. The project had a budget of over $4 million.
