COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new five-year agreement for fire and emergency response service between the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Township are on the agendas Monday night for both the Coldwater City Council and the Township Board.
The City provides fire suppression and emergency response services to both Girard and Coldwater Townships.
The existing agreement between the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Township expired as of June 30, 2022.
The City entered into a PA 425 agreement with Coldwater Township in 2017 to transfer the property owned by the State of Michigan and occupied by the Lakeland Correctional Facility to the City.
Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker says as part of the new five-year fire protection services agreement, the township would agree to forego the one-third of the fire protection payment from the State as part of its proposed compensation to the City for continued fire protection services from the Coldwater Fire Department.
