COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy man was acquitted of a home invasion charge but a Branch County Circuit Court jury found him guilty of a motor vehicle theft following a trial on Tuesday.
22-year-old Daymon Scott Gray is scheduled to be sentenced on August 22 on the conviction for unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle.
He was charged following an investigation by the Michigan State Police into the September 2020 break-in of a Quincy home and the subsequent theft of a minivan that belonged to the property owners.
Gray was later apprehended and the minivan was returned to the residence.
Prosecutors were unable to convince the jury Gray was involved in the break in.
On line court records indicate Gray turned down a plea bargain offer from Branch County Prosecutors last month.
The jury trial on Tuesday was the first in Branch County Circuit Court since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
